Screening is the process of identifying healthy people who may be at increased risk of disease or condition. Screening tests are simple tests that are done among healthy people in order to identify individuals who have risk factors or early stages of disease, but do not yet feels anything abnormal.(WHO)
There are general screening tests that apply to all individuals according to their age. For example, anyone should receive yearly blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol test, including body mass index measurement. This is because a large percentage (32.2%) of our population have metabolic syndrome, a disorder whereby someone has either or combination of abnormal sugar level, cholesterol level, blood pressure and obesity.

Screening tests should be done yearly for common tests e.g. blood sugar and cholesterol. Note that blood tests alone should not be the only screenings given, nothing is complete without basic physical examination! Everyone should have their blood pressure, weight and height measured at every visit to the doctor's office.
Screening is not effective if you skip the recommended schedule, you may just get diabetes for a few years and without knowing it!
